an organisation has a combustion plant with in
excess of 20 MW, there are mandatory CO2 emissions
limits as part of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. If
affected by the EU ETS, then a permit is required
to operate.
Penalties for missing emissions targets in
the Phase 1 of the EU ETS are €40 per
tonne CO2 which will rise to €100.

work closely to ensure they meet their targets
and comply with all aspects of the EU Emissions
trading scheme.
This process not only brings compliance to the
scheme but can be used to raise the profile of
the company in reporting initiatives such as
the Dow Jones Sustainability Index or in internal
staff promotions based upon green reporting to
